Prasidh Krishna: 'Indian cricket, in terms of fast bowling, is in good hands'

Prasidh Krishna said on Sunday night at the Greenfield Stadium, after India's first ODI against the West Indies, that "I would say Indian cricket, in terms of fast bowling, is in good hands"; India won the match with more than eight overs remaining and Prasidh claimed two wickets.

Prasidh Krishna, like all aspiring cricketers of his generation, grew up watching Virat Kohli bat, and on Sunday night at the Greenfield Stadium he watched from the dressing room Kohli conjuring up an extraordinary knock. "It was unbelievable," he said. "Sitting outside, we were thinking, what do we bowl to him at that moment? He was striking the ball really, really well. We were all excited."

Prasidh said he has been having a good time with the white ball and is India’s leading bowler in ODIs this year with 15 wickets from eight matches. "Every single session we go in, we are looking to improve at something," he said. "And every game poses a different kind of challenge. When you come in knowing what exactly must be done, there is clarity within the team, there is clarity in me as to what I do when I come in. There is enough communication going on. All this helps me bowl well."

On the competition for pace-bowling slots, he offered a detailed view of the environment among India’s quicks. "It is great. We are seeing a lot of fast bowlers coming in. It is really good for the Indian cricket team, honestly. You keep pushing each other." "And every time we go into nets, we know the kind of bowlers that we’re bowling amongst. I would say Indian cricket, in terms of fast bowling, is in good hands."
