Prithvi Shaw, Akriti Agarwal announce split months after engagement

Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his fiancée Akriti Agarwal announced on Instagram that they have decided to part ways on Thursday, September 17. Agarwal said the decision was mutual and asked people to refrain from speculation.

Shaw revealed the engagement on March 8, posting a series of photographs that showed him on one knee and the couple displaying their engagement rings; his Instagram caption read, "From sixes on the field to a lifetime of hits off it. She’s my perfect innings!" The pair were pictured together at the wedding celebrations of Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandhok in Mumbai earlier this year. Agarwal is a social media influencer and actress from Lucknow who moved to Mumbai, has more than 3 million followers on Instagram, and made her film debut with Trimukha.

"With a heavy heart, I would like to share that my fiance and I have decided to part ways due to different goals and circumstances for our future. As much as we love and care for each other, we've come to accept that our paths are not meant to be together. With our responsibilities and the circumstances we are currently facing, we have mutually decided to go our separate ways," Agarwal wrote on Instagram.

"I genuinely wish nothing but the best, peace, and happiness for both of us as we move forward. I kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this difficult time and refrain from speculating or making assumptions about the reasons behind our decision. Thank you for understanding and respecting our space," she added.

Shaw announced himself on the international stage in 2018 by scoring 134 against the West Indies on his Test debut in Rajkot. At 18 years and 329 days, he became the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut.

In October 2024, Mumbai dropped Shaw from their Ranji Trophy squad amid concerns over fitness, training attendance and what the Mumbai Cricket Association described as his "general conduct".

Shaw went unsold twice at his Rs 75 lakh base price in the 2026 auction before Delhi Capitals bought him for the same amount in an accelerated round; he did not play a single match in the tournament.

He has played five Tests, six ODIs and one T20I for India, scoring 528 runs with one century and two fifties.

The development comes at a period when Shaw is attempting to rebuild his cricket career. He last represented India during the 2021 tour of Sri Lanka.
