Prithvi Shaw said he remains hopeful of a recall to the Indian team after captaining Maharashtra to an outright Ranji Trophy win over Bengal at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 5, 2026.

The former India Test opener spoke positively about his form and approach while stressing he is not overthinking future selection. “It’s (the ambition of returning to the Indian team) always there in the back of the mind. Obviously, hard work is going to help. But, with the experience I have, I should not think too far ahead. I think about the present. I want to just keep winning matches, have good training and eat well,” said Shaw.

In the match at Eden Gardens on Thursday, Shaw produced his second half-century of the season, an unbeaten 53, as Maharashtra secured an outright victory over Bengal in the Ranji Trophy.

Shaw last played a Test in 2020 and last donned India colours in 2021.

The Mumbaikar said he had been enjoying his stint with the neighbouring Maharashtra team. “It’s a good phase. Mumbai and Pune are not too far. There are a lot of players with whom I’ve played and there’s good bonding. I am very comfortable here and have enjoyed it (so far),” said Shaw.

He would celebrate his 27th birthday on November 9.
