PS5 Overdrive app for jailbroken consoles draws attention after GitHub release

PlayStation community members and forum users have been discussing the Overdrive app for jailbroken PS5 consoles after the application appeared on GitHub on 9 October, arriving 10 days after the Relapse jailbreak.

Overdrive is reported to convert modified PS5 systems into an unofficial digital storefront where users can browse and download games and DLC without payment, according to multiple reports; the app is not supported by PlayStation and using such methods can violate platform rules.

A social media post summarised the scope of the store: "‼️ A homebrew app called Overdrive turns jailbroken PS5s into a store of 1,669 games. It hit GitHub on 9 October, 10 days after the Relapse jailbreak, and pulls games from file hosts like MediaFire. pic.twitter.com/wgbTceyv0s".

Among the titles reported to be available through Overdrive are Black Myth Wukong, Insomniac’s Spider-Man, Battlefield 6, 007: First Light and Forza Horizon 5, which community posts have identified as present in the catalogue.

Another homebrew project mentioned alongside Overdrive is PSXBOX, which reportedly brings Xbox Cloud Gaming functionality to jailbroken PS5 consoles, allowing players to browse and stream Microsoft’s cloud library at up to 1080p resolution and 60 FPS.

Reports say PSXBOX also supports the DualSense controller and offers additional options including streaming settings, image adjustments, performance statistics, and upscaling options.

Sony does not support PS5 jailbreaking or console modifications, and using unofficial software can violate PlayStation’s terms of service; reports suggest Overdrive only functions on PS5 consoles that have been modified through jailbreak methods.
