PSG seek third straight Champions League and a six-trophy campaign as Super Cup awaits
Paris St-Germain will face Europa League winners Aston Villa in the Uefa Super Cup in Salzburg on Wednesday (20:00 BST) as they aim to start the season with European silverware and pursue a third successive Champions League title.
PSG secured their first Champions League in 2025 and followed it up by retaining the trophy, beating Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich in 2025 and then defeating Arsenal on penalties in Budapest this year; only Real Madrid had previously won consecutive Champions League titles, completing a three-year run from 2016 to 2018. Luis Enrique’s side are targeting a third straight European crown, a feat previously achieved in the European Cup era by Real Madrid, Ajax and Bayern Munich, with Liverpool appearing on an extended list for three wins in five years (1977, 1978, 1981).
The Paris club are entered in six competitions this season — the Uefa Super Cup, Trophee des Champions (France’s Community Shield), the Champions League, Ligue 1, the French Cup and the Fifa Intercontinental Cup — and are described in the source as favourites for each. Last season PSG won a joint-record five trophies, their only domestic failure coming in January when they lost the French Cup to neighbours Paris FC; the campaign before that yielded four trophies.

PSG’s core remains largely intact: the same 10 outfield players started both of their recent Champions League finals, with only the goalkeeper differing, and those 10 players are still at the club. Summer arrivals so far are Monaco midfielder Maghnes Akliouche, Aston Villa left-back Lucas Digne and 18-year-old Milan goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni; departures include Lee Kang-in to Atletico Madrid and Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan, while Bradley Barcola could join Liverpool in a deal reported as worth about £100m.
Transfer business also included an unsuccessful bid for Leipzig forward Yan Diomande — a £102.5m offer was rejected and he moved to Real Madrid for up to £120m — and PSG’s attention is now reported to be on Barcelona’s Ferran Torres. Akliouche represented France at the World Cup alongside fellow new signing Digne.
