PSG sign Ferran Torres for €50m as Djed Spence joins Inter; Villa pursue Zion Suzuki
Paris Saint-Germain have signed Spain forward Ferran Torres from Barcelona and Djed Spence completed a transfer from Tottenham to Inter on 15 August 2026 during the summer window. Reports put Torres’s fee at €50m and Spence’s move at about €30m.
Torres has signed with PSG until 2031, with the 26-year-old arriving after scoring the extra-time winner for Spain in the World Cup final against Argentina. Last season he scored 21 goals and supplied three assists in 49 appearances for Barcelona, has 25 goals in 65 appearances for Spain, and joined Barcelona in 2022 following a brief spell at Manchester City; he will be reunited with Luis Enrique at club level.
Djed Spence’s transfer to Inter is on a five-year contract for roughly €30m (£25.6m) and includes a 10 percent sell-on clause. Spence started four matches at the World Cup, including the semi-final against Argentina, and had slipped down the pecking order at Tottenham after the arrival of Andy Robertson; he signed a new four-year contract in north London at the start of last season but expressed interest in joining the Italian champions, where Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro are expected to be Roberto De Zerbi’s preferred full-backs.
Juventus have revived interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who is reported to be open to leaving after six seasons and is increasingly likely to depart during this transfer window. Villa dismissed an offer from Juventus earlier this summer; Martínez is under contract until 2029, has not featured since the end of last season and was among the players given an extended post-World Cup break by manager Unai Emery, with the goalkeeper due to turn 34 in September.
Aston Villa are advancing a deal to sign Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as Martínez’s replacement. Suzuki was born in the United States to a Ghanaian father and a Japanese mother, was raised in Japan, started all four of Japan’s World Cup games this summer, began his career at Urawa Red Diamonds before moving to Sint-Truiden initially on loan and joined Parma two years ago; he has been tracked by several Premier League clubs.
Villa have already sold Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne this summer and face doubts over retaining Ezri Konsa, with Arsenal reportedly reluctant to meet Villa’s mooted £60m valuation for the England defender. The club accept that recruiting a forward of Premier League pedigree may require another significant sale to comply with financial rules; Martínez is thought to be Villa’s highest earner. Villa also expect to complete the £17m signing of Atlético Madrid full-back Matteo Ruggeri in the coming days and remain in talks to sign Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha after Amadou Onana sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury at the World Cup with Belgium, while they have been linked with West Ham’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and see Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson as one of Emery’s preferred attacking targets, although Jackson cannot join on loan following Alejandro Garnacho’s loan signing.
Coventry City have agreed a deal to sign Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi; the 29-year-old Nigeria striker scored four top-flight goals last season, has fallen down the pecking order at Forest and is expected to bolster Coventry’s forward options ahead of their Premier League opener at Arsenal on Friday.
Suzuki had been poised to join Paris Saint-Germain this week, but the Champions League winners, who defeated Villa in the Super Cup in Salzburg on Wednesday, pulled out of a deal that was worth about €35m (£30m).
