Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 match against Lyon at the Parc des Princes, originally scheduled for Sunday, October 25 at 8:45 p.m. local time, has been postponed and rescheduled for Monday, October 26 at 8:30 p.m. after the Paris police prefecture raised security concerns. The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) confirmed the change on Friday.

The LFP said the decision followed an order from the Prefecture of Police and published a statement: "The LFP acknowledges the order issued by the Prefecture of Police prohibiting the holding of the PSG-Lyon match ... on Sunday, October 25, at 8:45 p.m., and has decided, in agreement with Ligue 1+, to reschedule the match for Monday, October 26, at 8:30 p.m.,". The move comes as French authorities prepare for another weekend of protests in the capital after rioting and looting swept through Paris and other French cities on October 17, raising concerns over public safety and the deployment of security personnel.

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said earlier this week that authorities would mount a "massive" security operation for demonstrations planned on Saturday, with troops set to reinforce police personnel. The expected deployment of extra forces was cited by authorities in assessing the capacity to secure multiple large public events across the Paris region.

The situation has also affected plans for an NFL regular-season game in the area: the Pittsburgh Steelers' fixture against the New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, around 10 kilometres from Place de la Bastille, will take place amid the same security concerns. The game marks the NFL's first regular-season fixture in Paris and has drawn comment from political and sporting figures; US President Donald Trump expressed concern about the event on Friday, suggesting that the NFL could have postponed the game given the situation in France, and Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, said he believed the league would have cancelled the fixture if it considered the situation unsafe.

The unrest has already disrupted France's domestic football calendar: Toulouse's Ligue 1 home match against Troyes was moved from Saturday to Sunday at the request of local authorities, and both Marseille and Lille reported that their official stores were looted during last weekend's violence. Those incidents were cited by officials when adjusting fixtures and security plans for the coming days.

On the pitch, the rescheduled encounter remains an important fixture in the early Ligue 1 title race, with Lyon top of the standings on 14 points after seven matches, ahead of reigning French and European champions PSG on goal difference. The clash will also fall on the day of the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London; PSG forward Ousmane Dembele, the 2025 winner, and teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are among the contenders mentioned in coverage, although both players are dealing with injuries.

The LFP moved the fixture to Monday to accommodate the security situation, saying the change would allow authorities to concentrate on the planned demonstrations and other major events across the Paris region. The match is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 26.
