Punjab Kings to hold five-day camp ahead of IPL 2027

Punjab Kings will hold a five-day pre-season camp from August 12 to 16 as part of their preparations for the 2027 Indian Premier League. The franchise has said it is determined to finish the unfinished business after recent near-misses.

Shreyas Iyer captained Punjab Kings to the 2025 final, where they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru and finished as runners-up. In IPL 2026 PBKS began the campaign with seven consecutive wins but then suffered six straight defeats, their form dipped in the second half and injuries disrupted the side, leaving them one point short of the playoffs.

Punjab Kings have confirmed they will hold a five-day camp and join other franchises that have announced pre-season training, with Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings already declaring camps. The announcement comes via media reports detailing the team’s preparation plans.

According to those media reports, the camp will be used to assess the squad and lay groundwork ahead of IPL 2027, with a specific emphasis on fitness, conditioning and skill work for Indian domestic cricketers. The franchise intends the sessions to strengthen players’ physical readiness and technical work ahead of the new season.

The camp will allow head coach Ricky Ponting and the management to work closely with the players and to develop tactical approaches and team strategies. Franchise officials expect the gathering to inform decisions on possible player releases and retentions ahead of the auction.

Punjab Kings view the camp as a way to identify the core group they want to build around and to generate insight into the list of players they may target at the auction amid ongoing preparations. Organisers say the assessment will feed directly into the squad planning process.
