Rabbi Matondo signs for Hibernian until end of season

Rabbi Matondo has completed a move to Hibernian, joining the Scottish club on 7 October 2026 and becoming new manager Marink Reedijk's first signing since he replaced David Gray last month. The 26-year-old Wales winger had been training on trial at Easter Road prior to the agreement.
Matondo arrives after leaving Norwegian side Brann in August following a five-month spell. He finished a near four-year period at Rangers — during which he made his final appearance for the Glasgow club in January 2025 — and spent time on loan at Hannover while contracted to Ibrox. His career also includes spells with Schalke, Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.
Around two thirds of Matondo's 70 Rangers appearances came in the Scottish Premiership. He scored eight goals for Rangers, with all but one coming in the top flight, and one of those strikes was against Hibernian.
On the international stage, Matondo has been capped 15 times by Wales, with his most recent appearance coming last year. He scored his only senior international goal in 2025, netting in a 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan.
Commenting on the signing, Reedijk said of Hibs' training camp during the international break: "He made an immediate impression during our time in La Manga and has shown a great attitude, strong application and a real willingness to learn and adapt." Reedijk added: "Rabbi gives us pace, directness and a real threat in wide areas, while also bringing a positive personality into the dressing room." He concluded: "He has settled in quickly and we are looking forward to working with him and seeing the impact he can make."
Matondo has signed until the end of the season, with an option for Hibernian to extend the deal for a further year.
