Rams suspend Alaric Jackson for punch and release kicker Harrison Mevis

Alaric Jackson was suspended for two games after punching Buffalo Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb following the Los Angeles Rams' 37-34 overtime loss to the Bills on Monday, and the Rams have released kicker Harrison Mevis and signed Blake Grupe from the New York Jets' practice squad.
Bradley Chubb was speaking with players from both teams near midfield when Jackson approached and struck him in the jaw, an incident that prompted the NFL to hand Jackson a two-game ban.
Harrison Mevis missed a field goal in regulation and had another attempt blocked in overtime; Rams head coach Sean McVay said the blocked kick "cost us the game" and added, "The kicking game, especially with our PAT, field goal, not even close to good enough." Mevis, 24, has made five of his past nine field goal attempts, including only one of his last four across the past two games.
The club has cut Mevis and brought in Blake Grupe from the New York Jets' practice squad to handle kicking duties.
Grupe, 27, has converted 81.9% of his field goals and 98% of his extra-point attempts in 50 NFL games with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts; Mevis joined the LA Rams in 2025 and Jackson joined the LA Rams in 2021.
Jackson is now set to miss the Rams' next two games against the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders.
