Ranji Trophy 2026-27 schedule: Round 1 fixtures, groups, squads and venues

The Ranji Trophy 2026-27 will begin on October 11, 2026, with 38 teams set to compete and Round 1 fixtures scheduled from October 11 to 14 across multiple venues in India. Jammu and Kashmir enter the defence of their title and open their campaign against Madhya Pradesh in Srinagar.
The competition features 38 teams split into four Elite groups (eight teams each) and a Plate group of six teams, with a total of 138 matches on the calendar. The tournament is planned in two phases because domestic white-ball tournaments are scheduled between them; the first phase runs from October 11 to November 5, then the schedule makes way for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy before Ranji matches resume in January 2027. Jammu and Kashmir are defending champions after winning their first Ranji Trophy last season, while sides including Mumbai, Karnataka and Bengal are among those expected to seek strong starts.
The opening round comprises 19 matches across the Elite and Plate groups. Notable Round 1 fixtures include Jammu and Kashmir v Madhya Pradesh in Srinagar, Karnataka v Andhra, and Bengal v Delhi.
Qualification from the group stage is defined: the top two teams from each Elite group will progress to the quarter-finals. In the Plate group the top four teams will move to the semi-finals, with the two finalists earning promotion.
