Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh will meet in a Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match at the VCA Jamtha Stadium in Nagpur beginning on Monday, a fixture with significant implications for knockout qualification. The game pits the competition’s current leader against a side seeking to climb the Group A table after three rounds of play.

Three rounds into the season, Group A has begun to split, with the top four sides creating significant breathing space from the remaining four; Vidarbha sit atop the group after securing outright wins in all three of their matches. The hosts’ batting showed early vulnerabilities this season but recovered in their most recent outing to post a substantial total.

Dhruv Shorey led Vidarbha’s recent revival with 168, and the same match produced half-centuries from R. Samarth, Danish Malewar and Akshay Wadkar. That collective run-making eased questions about the side’s top order that had been raised earlier in the campaign.

Vidarbha’s seamers have also contributed strongly: Nachiket Bhute and Rajneesh Gurbani have bowled in fine rhythm, while Harsh Dubey’s work on the final day proved decisive in the last result. Fast bowler Yash Thakur, however, will miss this match.

Madhya Pradesh occupy the lower end of the quartet but have had mitigating circumstances, drawing their first two matches despite holding first-innings leads because of rain; they recorded their first outright win in the most recent round against Bihar. The batting has been driven by Rajat Patidar, who has registered two centuries in two innings, with contributions also from Shubham Sharma, Yash Dubey and the rookie top-order pair Chanchal Rathore and Saksham Purohit.

Saransh Jain produced a match-winning performance with the ball against Bihar, taking 13 wickets, while Avesh Khan has taken nine scalps across two games on his red-ball return. Those bowling returns underpin Madhya Pradesh’s recent positive result.

The teams last met in the semifinals of the 2024-25 season; although this fixture does not carry the same knockout stakes, securing points here will be crucial if either side is to retain lofty ambitions in the competition. The match begins on Monday at the VCA Jamtha Stadium in Nagpur and will influence each side’s path in Elite Group A.
