Raul Fernandez leads from lap one to win British MotoGP at Silverstone

Raul Fernandez led from the opening lap to win the British MotoGP at Silverstone on Sunday, claiming his second MotoGP victory and his first win since last year's Australian Grand Prix.

Fernandez, the 25-year-old Trackhouse Racing rider who had crashed out of Saturday's sprint, finished 2.5 seconds clear of the field. Championship leader Jorge Martin, also 25, had taken pole but suffered technical issues at Turn One that briefly dropped him to fourth before he recovered to finish behind Fernandez. Despite the mid-race problem, Martin — who won the sprint race — extended his championship lead to 31 points.

Martin's Aprilia team-mate Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium in third and moved up to second in the championship standings. Ai Ogura failed to finish for the first time this season and consequently dropped to third in the title race.

Defending champion Marc Marquez crossed the line in seventh and now sits fourth in the drivers' standings. The result left the top four in the standings as Martin, Bezzecchi, Ogura and Marquez in that order.

Six further riders failed to finish the Grand Prix after crashes on Sunday. Alex Rins and Joan Mir were eliminated following a first-lap collision, while Enea Bastianini, Iker Lecuona, Cal Crutchlow and Francesco Bagnaia also did not complete the race.

MotoGP announced earlier this week that it had extended its contract with Silverstone to keep the British Grand Prix on the calendar until at least 2028.

The next round of the 2026 season is the Aragon Grand Prix in Spain on 30 August.
