Ravindra Jadeja's laughing-emoji reply to BCCI application post draws attention after Ajit Agarkar exit

Ravindra Jadeja responded on X with a laughing emoji and the question "What is the procedure?" to a BCCI post inviting applications for a selector role after Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as chairman of the senior men’s selection committee ended on October 4.
Ajit Agarkar took charge of the senior men’s selection committee in 2023 and chose not to seek an extension when his term concluded. During his time as chairman, India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup, and Agarkar played a role in introducing younger players into the T20I side.
The BCCI has opened the process to find Agarkar’s successor by inviting applications for the vacant selector post on X. Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha is serving as interim chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, with Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra and RP Singh listed as committee members.
Ravindra Jadeja, who is not very active on X, posted the laughing emoji and the question "What is the procedure?" in reply to the application call. The exchange has attracted attention on the platform since the BCCI announcement.
Under Agarkar’s tenure, Jadeja was omitted from India’s ODI squads for the 2024 Sri Lanka series and the 2025 Australia series. Agarkar nevertheless said that Jadeja remains an important part of India’s ODI plans.
Jadeja previously commented on his selection situation, saying: "(Selection) isn’t in my hands. I want to play, for sure. (At the) end of the day, team management, selectors, coach and captain have their thoughts and they will have their reasons for not selecting me for this series," he had said.
Earlier on Wednesday India head coach Gautam Gambhir praised Agarkar following his exit, writing on social media: "Dear Ajit Bhai, an absolute honour to work with you. Those 3 ICC trophies are testimony of your conviction: Team first & Team ahead, always.. I must say, History will be kinder to you. Thank you for everything. My heartfelt wishes for your future endeavours!!"
The BCCI will appoint a new chairman who will be responsible for selection decisions for the Indian team in the coming years, with the appointment taking place as India prepare for the ODI World Cup 2027.
