Razaullah receives hero's welcome in Islamabad after Edgbaston Test debut

Razaullah, 21, received a hero's welcome at Islamabad airport on September 15, 2026 after returning from Pakistan's England tour following his Test debut at Edgbaston. Family members, friends and cricket supporters gathered at the airport to welcome the youngster.

The England tour proved difficult for Pakistan overall, but Razaullah's breakthrough performance at Edgbaston stood out as a rare bright spot. The visitors eventually suffered a 0-3 series whitewash against England, yet the debutant's contributions with bat and ball drew attention. His arrival in Islamabad followed that memorable outing.

Razaullah's first Test appearance could hardly have started better. With his fourth delivery, he removed England's Joe Root, giving the debutant a prized wicket almost immediately. That early breakthrough was among the notable moments of his Edgbaston debut.

He made the more prolonged impact with the bat after coming in at No. 9 and scored 81. He brought up his maiden Test half-century in just 43 balls, doing so with a six. His innings included nine sixes, matching Ben Stokes' record for the most sixes by a batter in a Test innings in England, and he also equalled Tim Southee's mark for the most sixes by a Test debutant in an innings.

Pakistan had been bowled out for 133 in their first innings and were 0-2 in the second before the lower order resisted. Razaullah and Mohammad Abbas put together a 121-run eighth-wicket partnership to steady the innings. Abbas made 42 during that stand. Razaullah's innings ended when he was stumped off Lawrence for 81.

He was one of three players to receive their first Test caps at Edgbaston, alongside wicketkeeper Ghazi Ghori and Mohammad Imran. Pakistan had made significant changes to their squad after their defeat at Lord's, with seven players sent home. The alterations also extended to the coaching staff, with Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul losing their positions following the second Test.

Razaullah emerged from the campaign with his reputation significantly enhanced. The tour has given Pakistan another young name to watch closely.
