Real Madrid agrees seven-year transfer for Ivory Coast forward Yan Diomande

Real Madrid reached an agreement in Madrid on Thursday, August 6, 2026, to sign Ivory Coast forward Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig on a seven-year contract, the club said. The 19-year-old striker arrives after an eye-catching World Cup campaign.

Diomande starred for Ivory Coast at the World Cup before the team were eliminated by Norway in the round of 32. His performances drew reported interest from some Premier League clubs and from Paris Saint-Germain. Leipzig had previously maintained that the player was not for sale.

Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer praised Diomande’s character and impact, saying he "impressed us with his carefree attitude, willingness to learn, and courage from day one." Schäfer added: "He quickly established himself at the highest level with us, showcasing his speed, dribbling skills, and goal-scoring threat." He said the club was proud that Diomande's performances "garnered significant international attention."

It was not yet clear whether Diomande would be registered initially with Real Madrid’s B squad. The club announced the signing while leaving the player's immediate squad status undecided.

Real Madrid has reshaped its first-team squad since a disappointing end to last season. The new signings who will be coached by José Mourinho include playmaker Bernardo Silva, centre back Ibrahima Konaté, right back Denzel Dumfries and left back Marc Cucurella.

Whether Diomande will be integrated into the senior squad or begin with the B team remains to be confirmed by the club; his registration status is the next administrative step to be announced.
