Republic of Ireland beat Israel 3-0 in Debrecen

Republic of Ireland beat Israel 3-0 in Debrecen in their Nations League Group B3 tie on 27 September 2026. Three first-half goals gave Ireland their first win of the campaign.

The match came three days after a disappointing defeat in Kosovo and followed a tense pre-match atmosphere in which no handshakes took place and Republic of Ireland players bowed their heads during the Israeli anthem. Despite the fraught build-up, Heimir Hallgrimsson's side began with confidence.

The breakthrough arrived on 14 minutes when Troy Parrott turned James Abankwah's cut-back into the net for his 12th international goal. Two minutes later Adam Idah doubled the lead after being put through by Jack Moylan and slotted the ball past Daniel Peretz.

Caoimhin Kelleher was required early to thwart Anan Khalaili, and Ireland moved three clear in the 25th minute when Moylan drove into the box and fired home his first competitive international goal.

Israel pushed for a way back early in the second period, with Kelleher denying Dor Peretz and then Eliel Peretz. Idah went close to grabbing his second but Peretz turned his effort around the post.

Republic of Ireland now turn their attention to Austria in Dublin on Thursday, with Israel remaining in Debrecen to face Kosovo.
