Rishabh Pant, captaining Rest of India, was dismissed for 10 as his side closed on 155/7 after 53.2 overs on Day 1 of the 63rd Irani Cup at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar.

The Irani Cup is a premier domestic first-class fixture contested between the Ranji Trophy champion and a Rest of India side. The 63rd edition is underway with Jammu and Kashmir, who won the Ranji Trophy for the first time, hosting Rest of India; Paras Dogra leads the J&K team. Jammu and Kashmir won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Rest of India began steadily, reaching 108/2 in 32.2 overs, but lost momentum when they surrendered the next five wickets for 47 runs. After the first two sessions on Day 1, J&K’s bowlers had the upper hand and produced what the report described as a great bowling display.

A 76-run partnership for the second wicket between Shikhar Mohan and Sarfaraz Khan was the backbone of ROI’s start, with Shikhar scoring 60 and Sarfaraz contributing 45. Once that stand was broken, J&K were able to claw their way back into the contest.

Pant, leading Rest of India, managed 10 runs off 36 balls with one four before attempting a big shot from outside the crease and failing to time it. Umar Nazir dismissed him on the third ball of the 46th over.

The report notes Pant is captaining Rest of India and is not part of any Indian side playing at other levels; he was not selected for the Indian T20I squad for the Asian Games 2026 and was omitted from the India versus West Indies ODI series. He is also not included in the India A squad for three ODIs and two unofficial Tests against Australia A, and he last played for India in the second Test against Sri Lanka in August 2026.

The Irani Cup fixture remains in progress after Day 1 with Rest of India 155/7 in response to Jammu and Kashmir; play will resume in the following days as the match continues.
