Rishabh Pant retires hurt after being struck on left arm in Colombo

India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant retired hurt after being struck on his left arm during the first day of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo on Sunday, August 23, 2026. He walked off the field and did not continue his innings.
The blow arrived in the third session when Sri Lanka seamer Lahiru Kumara delivered a short ball that Pant tried to pull behind square but failed to connect with, allowing the ball to hit his left arm. Pant was seen visibly in pain immediately after the impact.
Pant had scored three runs off 15 balls before the injury, and the Indian team physiotherapist entered the field to attend to him. He was observed grimacing as medical staff assessed the damage.
An ice pack was applied to Pant’s hand and his arm was taped up during the on-field treatment. The tape was removed shortly afterwards when Pant continued to show signs of distress.
Pant walked off the pitch with the physiotherapist in the 58th over of the innings. Ravindra Jadeja then came to the middle and joined Devdutt Padikkal.
