Rockstar confirms GTA 6 single-player will have no microtransactions or generative AI

On August 30, 2026, Rockstar Games told Kinda Funny Games that Grand Theft Auto 6’s single-player story mode will not include microtransactions and that no generative AI was used in its development. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson addressed questions on both monetization and AI during the interview.
Rockstar said the game was created entirely by its developers and human craft, and reported it produced over 600,000 animations by hand while using human artists for every asset in the game. The studio’s disclosures have intensified fan interest ahead of the full launch on November 19, 2026.
During the Kinda Funny Games interview, host Andy Cortez asked whether players would be able to use real money in GTA 6; Rob Nelson replied, “No monetization.” That answer confirmed the single-player campaign will not feature microtransactions, premium currencies, or in-game purchases, and Rockstar said players can experience the whole campaign without additional purchases or paid content that may affect gameplay.
When asked about generative AI, Nelson said, “NO AI” was used in the game. Rockstar stated that every aspect — the dense and interactive open world, insane visual fidelity, characters, dialogues, missions and every part of the game — was handcrafted by the developers.
Rockstar described the paid options it will offer as one-off items rather than in-game monetization and said it will release multiple versions of GTA 6, including an Ultimate Edition that includes bonus content and exclusive cosmetic access.
The studio is staying pretty quiet about GTA Online and has been focused on the single-player campaign and showcasing the open-world features and their immersiveness.
