Rockstar releases GTA 6 launch trailer revealing Jason’s backstory, Vice City and new Justice track

Rockstar Games released the GTA 6 launch trailer on October 16, 2026, unveiling new details about protagonist Jason, large-scale action sequences and the game’s Vice City setting. The trailer also introduced new music from electronic duo Justice and a track titled "Flower in a Hurricane" credited to Justice feat. Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
The trailer places greater emphasis on Jason’s personal story and his relationship with Lucia, while offering expanded views of the game’s open world. It contains multiple scenes that suggest Jason has a military background, shows hints that he was discharged under rough conditions and implies he turned to crime alongside Lucia. Rockstar provided an official synopsis with the trailer: "Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive." The company has not confirmed the full story beyond what appears in the trailer.
Action in the trailer includes high-speed police chases, explosive heists, shootouts and sequences showing large-scale destruction across the open world. Several set pieces display coordinated violence and vehicle-based pursuits, expanding the gameplay scenarios previously shown. The trailer’s pacing foregrounds cinematic sequences alongside free-roam moments.
Footage expands the scope of Leonida, showing beaches, cities, highways, small towns and rural areas that players will be able to explore. The trailer also depicts dense NPC activity, with increased traffic, packed events and active pedestrian movement in multiple locations. The presentation aims to portray Vice City as a more populated and reactive environment than prior trailers suggested.
The launch footage places particular emphasis on environmental destruction and physics-driven reactions to impacts. One sequence draws attention to a building’s glass facade responding to an impact before shattering, with damage propagating across panels rather than a single scripted break. The visual detail in these moments was highlighted in reaction to the trailer.
The new look provides the clearest view yet of Jason’s role in the narrative, focusing on his partnership with Lucia as central to the plot. Scenes in the trailer imply a progression from military service to civilian life and then to criminal activity, with several clips hinting at a troubled discharge. Rockstar has not expanded on those hints outside the trailer.
Soundtrack details featured in the reveal note Justice as responsible for the game’s original score and for new music in the trailer, including the track "Flower in a Hurricane" featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Fan responses cited in the report praised the trailer’s cinematic storytelling, the density of NPCs, the detailed environments and the stronger narrative focus on Jason’s character.
GTA 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and a report cited alongside the trailer says a PC version is planned for a Q1 2027 launch.
