Rockstar’s LOVE Magazine reveals new GTA VI details on Lucia, world-building and modern satire

Rockstar Games has disclosed fresh information about Grand Theft Auto VI in a LOVE Magazine feature reported on 2026-10-05, outlining character backgrounds, open-world ambitions and the game’s approach to contemporary culture. The company described the project as the culmination of long development and said the team aims to immerse players in the world of Leonida and Vice City.
Rockstar says GTA VI has been in development for 13 years and calls the game “the ultimate version of an unfolding body of work”, adding that it is their deepest and most immersive experience to date. Developers told LOVE Magazine they prioritized character depth, realistic world-building and a modern take on American culture as central goals for the title. The report frames Lucia and Jason as the main protagonists whose storylines are intended to drive the player experience.
Lucia is presented as a determined woman with an immigrant background who is focused on building a better life despite constant struggles and obstacles. The developers said one of their biggest priorities was to create a protagonist whose impact could match prior leading characters such as Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2 and Niko Bellic from GTA IV. They said Lucia was written to reflect that ambition and was imagined as raised around Newark, New Jersey, near Liberty City.
Jason is described as Lucia’s partner in crime and as a character designed to complement her, with the pair’s relationship producing a constant push-and-pull dynamic as they navigate life in Leonida. The feature notes his military background and states explicitly that this detail is not intended to serve as a political message. According to the report, circumstances drive him toward criminal activities, including drug trafficking, bank robbery and more.
To build an authentic Vice City and wider Leonida region, Rockstar said its team spent years researching the setting, travelling across Miami, surrounding towns, the Florida Keys and rarely visited areas. The developers also reported speaking with local police, locals and people involved in criminal activities and gangs as part of that research. The magazine piece emphasizes that these efforts informed the game’s locations and atmosphere.
Rockstar outlined a strong emphasis on background content to increase immersion, citing radio shows, advertisements, pedestrian conversations and environmental storytelling as areas of focus to make the open world feel more alive. The company also detailed the game’s satirical targets, saying GTA VI will lampoon modern society, including conspiracy theories, internet culture and the sometimes-improbable ways people interact with everyday experiences. Rockstar added it will focus on creating fictional versions of these modern trends, rather than simply incorporating real-world viral ideas into the game.
The LOVE Magazine feature places Lucia and Jason at the centre of GTA VI’s narrative and describes extensive location research and layered background content as foundations for the intended immersion.
