Rohan Kunnummal scored a 47-ball 94 as Calicut Globstars beat Alleppey Ripples at the Greenfield stadium in the KCL on Monday, completing the chase after Ripples were dismissed for 131.

Calicut captain Rohan S. Kunnummal won the toss and his bowlers used the conditions to restrict Alleppey to a below-par total. Kunnummal was dropped twice by Akshay Pillai, on three and on 49, and his innings included 6 fours and 8 sixes.

Left-arm spinner M.U. Harikrishnan delivered a double-wicket maiden in the second over, removing Jalaj Saxena and skipper Sachin Baby with successive deliveries and putting Ripples on the back foot.

Akhil Scaria removed Mohammed Azharuddeen (16) and K.A. Arun in the third over to leave Ripples 16 for four, while a later rearguard saw Abhijith Praveen (24) and Sibin Girish (17) add 30 for the eighth wicket. Ashiq Ali’s late cameo of 33 not out off 17 balls (4x4, 1x6) helped push the Ripples’ total.

Jalaj Saxena struck twice in the PowerPlay to reduce Globstars to 18 for two, but Kunnummal accelerated after his second reprieve by clubbing Ajinas for three consecutive sixes. He fell short of a century attempting another big hit, and Akhil Scaria’s unbeaten 31 guided Calicut to victory.

The scores: Alleppey Ripples 131 in 19.3 overs (Ashiq Ali 33, M.U. Harikrishnan 3/12, Vignesh Puthur 2/25, Akhil Scaria 2/27) lost to Calicut Globstars 135/4 in 16.5 overs (Rohan Kunnummal 94, Akhil Scaria 31 n.o., Abhijith Praveen 2/8, Jalaj Saxena 2/13).

On Sunday, Calicut Globstars posted 195/6 in 20 overs (Rohan Kunnummal 58, Akhil Scaria 56 n.o., Krisha Devan 39 n.o., Vijay S.Viswanath 2/22) to beat Aries Kollam Sailors 129/6 in 15 overs (Arun Poulose 37, Arjun Venugopal 27 n.o., Akhin Sathar 2/12) by 21 runs under the VJD Method.
