Rohit Sharma’s fielding run out removes Daryl Mitchell in 1st NZ v IND ODI at Eden Park

Rohit Sharma produced a stunning fielding effort to run out Daryl Mitchell during the first ODI between India and New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on November 4. The dismissal came as India, who won the toss and opted to field, controlled proceedings with both ball and in the field.
The 39-year-old Rohit raced in from mid-wicket after Glenn Phillips nudged the ball to the leg-side, then executed an underarm return that KL Rahul gathered to complete the run out. There was a hesitation and apparent ball-watching between Phillips and Mitchell that proved costly for New Zealand.
Daryl Mitchell, who slammed four 100s and two 50s from his last 7 innings against India, was dismissed for 28 runs off 41 balls. His wicket left New Zealand reeling at 97 for five, the fifth wicket falling before the team reached 100.
Indian pacers had dominated the bowling in the opening ODI, with Anshul Kamboj conceding 22 runs in his 10-over spell while taking two wickets. Arshdeep Singh took three wickets and Gurnoor Brar claimed two as India built pressure through their pace attack.
After the bowling and fielding display, the responsibility for the chase falls to the Indian opening pair. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have been tasked with setting the tone for India’s reply in the remainder of the first ODI.
India won the preceding T20I series 3-2, and their combination of disciplined bowling and sharp fielding has put them in a strong position to press for victory in the opening match of the ODI series.
