Rohit Sharma slips while exiting team bus after India’s first ODI win over West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram

Rohit Sharma slipped while disembarking the Indian team bus in Thiruvananthapuram on the night of September 27, following India’s first ODI against West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium. India won that match by eight wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

West Indies posted 295/7 after batting first, with Justin Greaves scoring a century and contributions from John Campbell and Amir Jangoo. In reply, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli both made centuries as India completed the chase. Kuldeep Yadav picked up four wickets during the match.

The fall occurred as the team was returning to the hotel after the game; a video of Rohit losing his balance on the bus stairs and falling to the ground circulated on social media. Support staff and nearby players moved in to assist him and help him back to his feet. Virat Kohli was standing close by and appeared concerned during the incident.

There has been no official update from the BCCI or Rohit about any injury following the fall. Rohit had rejoined India’s ODI squad for the West Indies series after around two months away from the format, his previous ODI being against England on July 19, 2026. Virat Kohli also returned to the side for this series.

Rohit did not register a large score in the first ODI, but India secured a comfortable victory. The team now lead the three-match series 1-0.

With no injury officially reported after the fall, fans will be hoping to see Rohit available for the next game. The second ODI is scheduled for Guwahati on September 30, with the third match set for New Chandigarh on October 3.
