Rohit Sharma to play Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026-27 for Mumbai, reports say

Rohit Sharma has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association that he will make himself available to play for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026-27 in December, Indian Express reports. The India opener is expected to join Mumbai after the national team's three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at home.
The reports say Rohit told the MCA he will be available in December and will link up with the Mumbai side following India’s ODIs with Sri Lanka, scheduled from December 13 to 19. The Vijay Hazare Trophy league phase runs from December 14 to 29, with knockout matches set for January 2 to 8. Because the Sri Lanka series concludes on December 19, the reports note Rohit would be available for the second half of the Vijay Hazare league stage.
“He has informed us that he will be playing for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and to consider him available after India’s three-ODI series against Sri Lanka at home. How many matches he will be available for, he will inform us later,” an MCA source said.
The coverage adds that Rohit is likely to miss the tournament knockouts since India will be hosting Zimbabwe for a three-match series beginning January 3. That scheduling overlap is cited as the reason he would probably be unavailable for matches staged after January 2.
This will be Rohit's second consecutive season appearing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy; last season he featured in two games for Mumbai in Jaipur, his first VHT appearances since 2018. In those matches he scored 155 off 94 balls against Sikkim and recorded a golden duck versus Uttarakhand.
Reports describe Rohit's inclusion as a significant boost for Mumbai, who are expected to select a squad containing several high-profile players. The pieces also state that Rohit is anticipated to be part of the side and that participating in the domestic tournament would provide him additional match practice ahead of forthcoming assignments.
The MCA source said Rohit will confirm how many Vijay Hazare Trophy matches he can play at a later date, with his availability contingent on the conclusion of India’s three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka on December 19.
