Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill: ODI numbers since India’s Australia tour

Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma produced closely matched ODI figures in the period surrounding India’s tour of Australia in October 2025, when India lost the series 1-2. A comparison of their returns since that tour shows narrow differences in runs, averages and hundreds.
The Indian Cricket Team are ranked No. 1 in ODI cricket and have held that position since September 2023. During that span India’s bowling unit has seen several experiments while the batting unit has remained largely consistent. The current top three — Gill, Kohli and Rohit — are identified as a major factor in India’s success and domination in the 50-over format over the last 3-4 years. Kohli and Rohit have retired from T20Is and Tests; they left T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2024 and retired from Tests in May 2025, concentrating on 50-over cricket.
Looking at the period since 2023, Gill is the only batter to have reached 3,000 runs: he has scored 3,026 runs in 55 innings with ten centuries and 16 half-centuries. He is followed by Rohit Sharma on 2,666 and Virat Kohli on 2,638; those three are the only Indian batters to have passed 2,500 runs in that timeframe.
Over the stretch that includes the Australia tour, Gill has played 18 innings and scored 938 runs at an average of 85.27, with three centuries and five half-centuries. Virat Kohli has 928 runs in 15 innings at an average of 77.3, including four centuries and five half-centuries. Rohit Sharma has amassed 952 runs in 15 innings at an average of 59.5, with three centuries and five half-centuries.
Statistically, Rohit has been the leading run-scorer in that specific period with 952 runs, while Gill and Kohli have slightly higher averages. All three players have also produced multiple match-winning contributions during the same span, making a singular choice among them difficult.
In the official ODI rankings cited here, Gill is ranked No. 1, Kohli No. 2 and Rohit No. 4; India are the only side to have three batters inside the top ten. That trio’s place in the rankings reflects their cumulative output in recent years.
Taken together, the three batsmen are presented as central to India’s sustained No. 1 position in ODIs since September 2023, with their combined runs, centuries and rankings underpinning India’s stable batting line-up.
