Romelu Lukaku completes move to Fenerbahce from Napoli

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku has joined Turkish side Fenerbahce from Napoli on 12 August 2026. The 33-year-old returns to Turkey after an injury-hit season with the Serie A club.

He lived in Turkey during the 1996-1997 season when his father Roger was playing professionally for the Super Lig club Genclerbirligi. "It's an honour and a privilege to be joining your club ," said Lukaku in a video on social media addressed to Fenerbahce's fans. "I am fit, 100%, ready to go. It is an emotional moment after many years to be going back to Turkey where I lived as a young kid, where I discovered the professional world as a toddler with my dad." He is Belgium's record goalscorer.

Lukaku has played in England for Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Everton and Manchester United. The 33-year-old struggled with injuries last season and made only seven appearances in all competitions for the Serie A side. Despite that campaign, he scored three goals at this summer's World Cup.

He has won the Belgian championship with Anderlecht. He won a Fifa Club World Cup with Chelsea. He has won a Scudetto with both Inter Milan and Napoli.

The fee and length of contract for Lukaku has not been disclosed. He is the second former United forward to join the club this summer after Mason Greenwood was signed from Marseille. The club announced the signing via social media.

Fenerbahce have finished runners-up to Galatasaray for the last four seasons and are without a Turkish league title since 2014.
