Roshibina Devi reaches Asian Games wushu final with 2-0 semi win

Roshibina Devi defeated Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the women’s 60kg sanda semi-final at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday, September 23, to advance to the gold-medal match.

Roshibina was not part of India’s original Wushu contingent after losing to Divyanshi Choudhary in the selection trials semi-final but was drafted into the squad following Choudhary’s late withdrawal through injury; she has been the only Indian Wushu player projected to bring a medal from the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

The 25-year-old from Manipur is a two-time Asian Games medallist, having taken bronze at Jakarta-Palembang 2018 and silver at Hangzhou 2022, and she is an Arjuna Awardee in 2023; she is aiming for a third consecutive continental Games medal.

Her progression into the final guarantees Roshibina at least a silver medal; earlier in Aichi-Nagoya she beat Bangladesh’s Shika Khatun in the pre-quarter-finals and recorded a 5-0 win over Macao’s Chu Man Sin in the quarter-finals.

Other Indian Wushu competitors did not progress: Vikran Baliyan (men’s sanda 75kg) and Aparna Dahiya (women’s sanda 52kg) were eliminated after losing their opening matches, while Aryan Sood (men’s sanda 56kg) exited in the quarter-finals.

Roshibina will contest the women’s sanda 60kg final on Thursday, September 24.
