On August 5, 2026, Sachin Siwach and Preeti Pawar said they are aiming for Asian Games gold after winning boxing titles at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow and receiving a warm reception on return to India.

India’s boxing squad produced the country’s strongest showing at Glasgow, claiming seven golds and a total of 10 medals, and the contingent was greeted at Delhi Airport on their return. The 2026 Games were staged under a compact format that excluded major Indian medal events such as shooting, hockey, wrestling and badminton. India finished fourth in the overall medals table at Glasgow with 39 medals — 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. During the Closing Ceremony the Commonwealth Games Flag was handed over to Amdavad, beginning India’s preparations to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

Siwach, the men’s 60kg gold medallist, staged a comeback to defeat Namibia’s Tryagain Morning Ndevelo by a 3-2 split decision in the final. Speaking to ANI, he said: "When the national flag is hoisted, there is a different kind of happiness. This is what we play for. I want to bring gold from the Asian Games. I want to tell everyone to keep believing like this and keep encouraging us," said Siwach.

Preeti Pawar, who won the women’s 54kg title at Glasgow by defeating Canada’s Scarlett Delgado by unanimous decision, is a 2022 Asian Games bronze medallist. After landing gold at CWG 2026 she told ANI: "Thank you very much to everyone who came here to receive us. Our next target is the Asian Games and the LA 2028 Olympics. We cannot express our happiness on hearing the National Anthem play there. It is something that you can only feel."

Both boxers have identified the Asian Games as their immediate objective, with the Games in Japan scheduled to take place from September 19 onwards, and Preeti has also stated a target of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Their comments followed India’s record boxing haul at Glasgow and come as the country prepares for the next major multi-sport events mentioned by the athletes.
