Sanju Samson praised Shai Hope after West Indies defeated India by 24 runs in the fourth T20 International at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad on October 14, 2026. Shai Hope finished with an unbeaten century as West Indies’ disciplined bowling secured the win.

India had been set a target of 248 and Samson provided a blistering start, racing to a 20-ball half-century and recalling a century he scored at the same venue two years earlier when India fell three runs short of 300. After a string of dismissals left India in troubled waters, a resurgence from Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar briefly brought the hosts back into contention. Ultimately West Indies’ bowling and Hope’s unbeaten ton proved decisive in the 24-run victory at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

“When Tilak and Nitish were batting, we were still in the game. That is a great thing to have even after losing five wickets... having that kind of control, two young cricketers taking on the pressure and taking on the West Indian bowling line-up,” Samson said after the fourth T20I.

Reflecting on his own innings, Samson said: “I am actually a bit gutted. I definitely wanted to be on the winning side. When you are chasing a score like that, there are no second thoughts — you just have to back your instincts, power game, and that is what I did. So I really enjoyed the knock, but I would have liked to be on the winning side.”

On Hope, Samson added: “Hope is playing really well. We need to respect what he has been doing. He has been playing some really good cricketing shots, not taking that much risk, so he is respecting the bowlers as well.”

Samson’s post-match remarks were reported the following day; the article was published on October 15, 2026.
