Samukonga and Enekwechi to compete at WA Continental Tour Silver meet in Bhubaneswar on August 22

Zambia’s Paris Olympics 400m bronze medallist Muzala Samukonga and Nigeria’s Commonwealth Games shot put champion Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will compete at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on August 22, organisers said at a build-up event on Monday.
Samukonga is currently ranked sixth in the world and Enekwechi is placed 10th; organisers said the meet will feature a field of 188 athletes from 28 nations and will include 36 competitors ranked inside the global top 50.
“The presence of so many top athletes will deliver high quality competition,” said Athletics Federation of India (AFI) spokesperson Adille Sumariwalla.
India’s home contingent will number 88 athletes and includes long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, described as a double Commonwealth Games silver medallist, two-time Asian Games men’s shot put champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor, men’s 200m National Record holder Animesh Kujur and javelin thrower Rohit Yadav.
The build-up event in Bhubaneswar set out the scale of the continental tour Silver meeting and listed the international and domestic names expected to feature on August 22 at Kalinga Stadium.
