Sanas re-elected RWITC chairman as Shroff stays on as steward chief

In Pune on Thursday evening at the Royal Western India Turf Club’s 111th Annual General Meeting held by video conference, Surendra R. Sanas was returned as chairman for 2026-27 and Ram H. Shroff retained his position as chairman of the Stewards body; with nine nominations for nine available seats, all nominees were elected unopposed.
The meeting, reported on September 18, 2026 at 05:40 pm IST, was conducted via video conferencing and received only nine nominations to fill the nine managing committee positions, obviating the need for contested ballots for those seats.
The managing committee for the term comprises K.N. Dhunjibhoy, Vijay B. Shirke, Jaydev M. Mody, Surendra R. Sanas, Ram H. Shroff, Sunil G. Jhangiani, Gautam P. Lala, Shiven Surendranath and Jiyaji Bhosale.
Three candidates contested the election for two seats on the Board of Appeal for the 2026-2029 term, creating the only contested element of the AGM.
Geoffrey B. Nagpal led the Board of Appeal polling with 570 valid votes, Zinia Lawyer received 380 votes and Shivlal R. Daga obtained 311 votes; Nagpal and Lawyer were elected as members.
Geoffrey B. Nagpal and Zinia Lawyer will serve as elected members of the Board of Appeal for the 2026-2029 term.
