Santner’s maiden Hundred fifty earns Trent Rockets six-wicket win over MI London at The Oval
Trent Rockets beat MI London by six wickets at The Oval in The Hundred men's competition on 8 August 2026, with Mitchell Santner scoring his maiden Hundred half-century to guide the chase.
The victory secured Rockets a place in the knockout stages and was their sixth win in seven matches, moving them to 24 points at the top of the men's table and guaranteeing a top-three finish — eight points clear of Sunrisers Leeds, Welsh Fire and MI London.
Chasing 148, Rockets lost Finn Allen to Tom Curran and then Aneurin Donald and Sam Billings, leaving them 46-3 after 30 balls. Ben Duckett made 27 from 26 balls before being dismissed by Richard Gleeson midway through the innings.
Tim David and New Zealand white-ball captain Mitchell Santner then rebuilt the chase, benefitting from dropped catches by Sam Curran and Sherfane Rutherford respectively; David finished unbeaten on 32 while Santner raced to his maiden Hundred half-century from 21 deliveries and struck the winning runs with 10 balls to spare as Rockets reached 148-4 in 90 balls.
MI London, sent in to bat, began briskly with Will Jacks — who had three fifties in four matches — looking in form but two pieces of fielding checked their momentum: David took a backward running catch to remove James Vince and Duckett produced a pinpoint direct hit on the floor to run out Nicholas Pooran, leaving the hosts 35-2.
Jacks and captain Sam Curran put together a recovery before Jacks was dismissed for 39 by a reflex return catch from leg-spinner Calvin Harrison; wickets fell at intervals thereafter but Curran brought up a 30-ball half-century and finished 72 off 46 balls with four fours and five sixes as MI London posted 147-7 from their 100 balls.
Bowling figures of note included Gregory 2-32 for MI London and Richard Gleeson 2-27 for Trent Rockets, and the win represented Rockets' first victory at The Oval in the competition.
A crucial Hundred double-header on Sunday will see Sunrisers Leeds host Welsh Fire at Headingley and London Spirit welcome Birmingham Phoenix to Lord's, with women's matches at 11:00 BST and 14:30 and the men's at 14:30 and 18:00; the women's race remains alive only for Sunrisers and Fire, who both need wins to stay in contention for the knockout phase, while Spirit and Phoenix are already eliminated, and ball-by-ball commentary will be available on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, BBC Sounds and the BBC Sport website and app, with the Spirit v Phoenix fixtures shown live on BBC Two and via iPlayer from 14:15.
