Saransh Jain: Madhya Pradesh all-rounder makes Test debut in second India-Sri Lanka Test

Saransh Jain made his Test debut for India in the second match of the two-Test series in Sri Lanka, the tour that began on August 15 and forms part of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship.
The BCCI's squad announcement for the series included changes that saw the uncapped all-rounder added to the Test setup after Washington Sundar was ruled out of the opening match. Selectors brought Jain into the squad on the back of sustained domestic form and recent performances for India A in Sri Lanka.
Jain is a 33-year-old bowling all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh who bowls right-arm off-spin and bats left-handed. The Sri Lanka Test series represents his maiden call-up to the senior Indian team.
He has been part of Madhya Pradesh’s domestic set-up since the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season. In first-class cricket he has claimed 188 wickets and scored 2223 runs.
Jain featured for India A in unofficial Tests against Sri Lanka A while on tour, and in the second unofficial Test in Galle he took wickets in both innings and registered a score above 50 in one of the innings.
When India named their playing XI for the second Test, Jain replaced Kuldeep Yadav in the side. Washington Sundar had been ruled unavailable for the first Test due to fitness concerns, which preceded Jain’s inclusion in the squad.
India lead the two-match series 1-0 after winning the opening Test in Galle by 165 runs.
