Sarvesh Kushare wins silver in men's high jump at Asian Games 2026

India's Sarvesh Kushare won the silver medal in the men's high jump at the Asian Games 2026 at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Japan on Sunday, September 27, clearing 2.25m. Chinese Taipei's Fu Chao-hsuan also cleared 2.25m but was awarded the gold on countback.

The 31-year-old Maharashtra native secured his first Asian Games medal with the performance, ending a 56-year gap since India's last podium finish in the event. Prior Indian medallists named in the discipline are Ajit Singh, who won gold in 1954, and Bhim Singh, who won gold in 1966 and bronze in 1970.

South Korea's Woo Sang-hyeok completed the podium with a best clearance of 2.22m to take bronze.

Aadarsh Ram, the other Indian entrant in the competition, finished 13th after pulling out with injury.

Kushare's season included a national record clearance of 2.31m in June and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026, where he cleared 2.25m. He had narrowly missed an Asian Games medal at Hangzhou 2022, finishing fourth despite a 2.26m clearance.

India have now won four Asian Games medals in the men's high jump, including Sarvesh Kushare's silver in 2026.
