Savitha Shri Baskar headed to Olympiad after father quit Singapore job and pawned jewellery

Savitha Shri Baskar, 19, is headed to the Olympiad after her father quit his job in Singapore and pawned jewellery to fund her chess career.

She first learned chess by watching her elder brother and did not initially set out to become the family’s chess star.

Her father chose to back her and stretched the family's finances to keep her career going.
