Seifert 72 propels Manchester Super Giants to first men’s Hundred title
Manchester Super Giants defeated Trent Rockets by five wickets at Lord’s in the men’s Hundred final on 16 August 2026, winning 162-5 to chase 159 after the Rockets were 158-8. Tim Seifert scored 72 off 38 balls and Liam Dawson sealed the victory with a six two balls from the end.
The Old Trafford-based side claimed the men’s Hundred crown at their third attempt, having rebranded from the Originals; the Rockets' women’s team had won earlier in the competition. Aneurin Donald played the most substantial hand for the Rockets with a 19-ball 38 that included aggressive sweeps and hooks, and a mix-up with Sam Billings led to Billings being run out. Mitch Santner finished unbeaten on 20, which the report notes took him to a season’s batting average of 146, and Lewis Gregory contributed a rapid 16-ball 32 to help set a target that looked defendable.
Seifert, the New Zealand opener, dominated the chase from the outset, striking 14 off Mohammad Amir’s first over and reaching a 23-ball half-century while hitting seven sixes in his 72. He was initially ruled not out after flicking beyond the leg-side rope to Finn Allen before Allen, having leapt over the rope, flicked the ball back into play for Calvin Harrison to take; the on-field decision was overturned upstairs. Seifert celebrated his fifty by slogging Harrison into the second tier of the Mound Stand as the Super Giants moved to 87 for one off 50 balls.
The match tightened late after Seifert’s dismissal with 22 balls remaining and 23 runs still required, as Mohammad Amir removed Heinrich Klaasen and Michael Bracewell. With three needed off the final over Dawson missed with his first two deliveries, but he connected on the third ball of that over for a six, and Ben Sanderson’s follow-through over deep midwicket concluded the contest and the tournament.
