Sekiro: No Defeat anime to stream in January 2027, official X account says

The official X account revealed that Sekiro: No Defeat will start streaming in January 2027, the anime having been first revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025.

Fans and gamers had anticipated a release after trailers and footage appeared, but details on a streaming date remained scarce until the recent post on X. The project had originally been expected to launch in 2026, but the production team opted for a different rollout. Rather than debuting as a television series, the studio produced a theatrical version aimed at Japanese audiences and delayed the TV airing. The film was edited into a feature-length presentation to show the animation on the big screen before any episodic broadcast.

According to the report, the theatrical film was well received and its run was extended in theatres prior to the decision to revert the project back to a television format. Producer Tetsushi Suzuki confirmed the television adaptation will not be a simple split of the film. Suzuki stated the TV series will expand beyond the theatrical cut with added material.

Suzuki confirmed the TV series will comprise eight episodes. He also confirmed the television version will include additional scenes, extended cuts and new content that were not part of the theatrical release. Those elements are intended to differentiate the episodic presentation from the film.

The announcement specified that Sekiro: No Defeat will stream on Crunchyroll. The post did not provide an exact calendar date for the January 2027 premiere.
