Shaik Rasheed's 176 steers Andhra to draw against Punjab

Shaik Rasheed scored 176 for Andhra against Punjab in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in New Chandigarh on November 6, 2026. His innings helped Andhra secure a draw, leaving both teams with one point each.
Faced with a large target and nearly six sessions to negotiate, Rasheed anchored Andhra’s resistance with a display noted for patience and technical control. The 176 was described as equally a product of temperament and technique, with Rasheed saying: “We weren’t thinking about 592. We were setting short targets, 10 runs at a time. That made things easier,” in an exclusive interview with The Hindu.
Rasheed has been part of the Chennai Super Kings since 2023 and credits that environment for sharpening his composure under pressure. He pointed to M.S. Dhoni as an influence, saying: “Mahi bhai always says we should focus on what is in our control. We don’t know what the result will be, but our focus should be on giving our best,” he said. “Whatever the result, he is always normal. He never seems to be under pressure! That’s something I’m constantly trying to learn from him.”
Michael Hussey has also aided Rasheed’s development around technique and match temperament. On Hussey’s interventions, Rasheed said: “If a net session wasn’t going well, he would come and talk to me, ask me to take a break and start again. I interacted with him a lot regarding head position and technique.”
Rasheed maintains contact with Ruturaj Gaikwad to discuss the finer points of constructing an innings; on that relationship he said: “He has a lot of maturity in understanding the game. I’ve learnt a lot from him.”
With the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy round the corner, Rasheed now turns his attention to white-ball cricket. "With sound fundamentals and the ability to adapt to different situations, the change in format should hold few fears for the 22-year-old," the report said.
