Sheetal Devi wins second successive women's compound gold at Asian Para Games

Armless Indian archer Sheetal Devi defeated Singapore’s Alim Nur Syahidah 142-139 to claim the women’s compound individual gold at the Asian Para Games in Nagoya on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The 19-year-old world champion recovered from an early deficit to secure the title.
Sheetal returned to the range at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square less than a couple of hours after winning the compound mixed team gold with Toman Kumar. The final in Nagoya was a repeat of the Hangzhou 2023 pairing between Sheetal and Alim. The victory was Sheetal’s second successive Asian Para Games gold in the women’s compound event and her third medal of the ongoing Games.
Alim raced into a four-point advantage after the opening two ends, each consisting of six arrows, leaving Sheetal on the back foot early in the match. The Singaporean had been the runner-up in the previous edition, having lost that final by two points.
Across the third and fourth ends, Sheetal produced six 10s, including three Xs — arrows landing closest to the centre of the target — to overturn the deficit and move into a two-point lead going into the last end of three arrows. Those two ends formed the core of her comeback.
In the decisive three-arrow end, Sheetal shot three 9s for a 27-point finish while Alim posted 9, 8 and 9 for 26, enabling Sheetal to complete the 142-139 win. The margin reflected the late-match swing after Alim’s early advantage.
Sheetal is from Jammu and Kashmir and added this individual gold to the mixed team title she won earlier the same day with Toman Kumar. Her haul at Nagoya now comprises two gold medals and one other podium finish.
The result confirms Sheetal’s second successive Asian Para Games women’s compound gold and brings her medal total at the Nagoya Games to three.
