Shoaib Akhtar, during a live broadcast on October 4, 2026, dismissed reports that he would take the chief selector role in the Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board, saying 'This is all fake'.
He said he was not pursuing any formal role with the PCB, particularly following recent losses, and expressed a desire to support Pakistan cricket through other means rather than join the board.
