Shree Charani two points short of Megan Schutt’s T20I bowling rating after Women’s Asia Cup

Shree Charani is on the verge of equalling the all-time highest rating in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings following her displays at the Women’s Asia Cup in 2026. The India left-arm spinner’s rating has risen to 804 points, placing her two points behind Australia’s Megan Schutt, who set the benchmark at 806.

Charani’s 804 points are the highest rating ever recorded by an Indian in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings and make her the first Indian to exceed 800 points. Megan Schutt reached 806 points in November 2018, and England’s Sophie Ecclestone has also breached 800, peaking at 802. Charani’s tally has moreover overtaken the previous Indian high of 780 set by Mithali Raj in 2011.

The 22-year-old finished the Women’s Asia Cup as one of India’s leading bowlers, taking 12 wickets in the tournament. She saved one of her most important performances for the final against Sri Lanka, returning figures of 4/20 as India clinched the title. Those returns contributed significantly to the rise in her ranking points.

Charani’s ascent has been rapid given her limited international experience. She first broke into the top position in the T20I bowling rankings earlier in 2026 and has built on that standing through the Asia Cup.

With her current rating of 804, Charani stands on the threshold of joining the small group of bowlers to have passed 800 points and has the opportunity to become the highest-rated bowler in women’s T20I history. Her proximity to Schutt’s record places her in contention to rewrite that benchmark.

A strong run in the Asian Games could see Charani rewrite the record books once again and become the highest-rated bowler in the history of the ICC Women’s T20I rankings.
