Shubman Gill named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for September 2026

Shubman Gill became the latest Indian to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for September 2026 after his performances in India’s home series against the West Indies. The monthly prize recognises players who have been consistent across all three formats during a period of a month.
The ICC introduced the Men’s Player of the Month award in January 2021. Each month three cricketers are shortlisted and a panel of independent ICC voting academy members, including former players, broadcasters, and journalists, determine the outcome alongside an online fan vote that contributes 10 percent to the final decision. Every year 12 players are selected and recognised with this award. India have the most number of players who have won this award until now.
Indian ODI and test captain Shubman Gill won the September 2026 award after scoring a century and an unbeaten double century in the first two ODIs and finishing the series with 334 runs. The other two nominees for the month were Abhishek Sharma of India and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza.
Rishabh Pant was the first ever men’s cricketer to win the award in January 2021. He was followed by Ravichandran Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the next two months, February and March, respectively.
So far, there are 11 different Indian men’s cricketers who have been awarded this ICC prize for their consistent performance. Gill holds the record with five ICC Men’s Player of the Month awards: twice in 2023 (January and September), twice in 2025 (February and July), and once in 2026 (September).
India have also won seven ICC Player of the Month awards in women’s cricket. Harmanpreet Kaur was the first Indian women’s cricketer to win this award; apart from her, Deepti Sharma, Smriti Mandhana (twice), Shafali Verma (twice), and Arundhati Reddy have won this award.
