Shubman Gill was seen wearing a Temple wearable on his forehead while training with India in Auckland on October 29, 2026, ahead of the five-match ODI series against New Zealand. The India captain’s choice of device, which is designed to monitor brain-related signals rather than conventional fitness metrics, was conspicuous during the squad’s preparation.

Temple is a forehead‑mounted device developed by a team linked to Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal and positioned at the temple to monitor cerebral blood flow and other physiological signals associated with brain function. The wearable uses optical sensors through a technology called BrainFlow to track changes in cerebral blood flow and aims to monitor signals linked to oxygenation and cognitive load. Its Entropy score is intended to indicate physiological strain influenced by factors such as exercise, sleep and stress, and the company positions the device for wellness and research rather than medical diagnosis.

PV Sindhu has also been pictured wearing Temple, first at the Thomas and Uber Cup in April and later at the BWF World Championships in August, and has reportedly been testing the wearable as its developers explore potential applications. Gill has not publicly explained why he is using the device; its appearance on two prominent Indian athletes has drawn attention to the emerging technology and its potential role in elite sport.

Visuals from India’s net session in Auckland showed Gill alongside other squad members and staff, with the BCCI posting: "Getting into the groove Captain @ShubmanGill, @klrahul and Gurnoor Brar train in Auckland for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. Gill was also seen speaking with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak before heading into the nets, and wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul and pacer Gurnoor Brar have joined the touring party.

The five-match ODI series begins on November 4 at Eden Park, with senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli set to return to the 50-over side. Gill scored 754 runs during India’s five-Test series in England earlier this year and is reportedly funding four to five net bowlers to sharpen his preparations for the tour.

After the ODI series, Gill will turn his attention to the longer format, with the New Zealand assignment requiring careful preparation across conditions and formats; he will lead India in the upcoming two-Test series starting November 19.
