SmackDown at Cajundome: Fatal Influence defend Women’s Tag Titles; CM Punk returns ahead of Money in the Bank

WWE presented its October 9, 2026 SmackDown at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana, the final broadcast before the Money in the Bank premium live event on October 10. The card featured a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match—Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid) (c) vs Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley—and the announced return of CM Punk.
Friday’s show carried added significance as the last SmackDown before Money in the Bank 2026, with every participant in both the men’s and women’s ladder matches scheduled to appear. WWE listed CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill and Gunther among featured superstars for the broadcast, and only the Fatal Influence title defense was confirmed as a championship match on the announced card.
CM Punk’s return was a focal point: he earned his spot in the men’s Money in the Bank Ladder match by defeating Gunther and Finn Balor in a Triple Threat qualifier and is set to appear on SmackDown for the final time before the October 10 PLE. The report noted that, “The Second City Saint may not be the favorite to win the Money in the Bank 2026 PLE, as per the odds, but he has made it clear he’s coming back with a vengeance.” WWE had not announced a match for Punk on the October 9 show, and the coverage observed his presence could affect the Money in the Bank contest.
The announced Women’s Tag Team Championship bout will see Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid) (c) defend against Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley; the challengers earned their opportunity after approaching SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis on the October 2 episode. The pair previously faced Fatal Influence in September and were unsuccessful, and the October 9 match was framed as a chance for Fatal Influence to enter Money in the Bank weekend with momentum and for Charlotte and Tatum to reverse that prior result.
WWE confirmed the complete fields for both Money in the Bank ladder matches and that every competitor would appear on SmackDown. The men’s group listed Bron Breakker, Je’Von Evans, Trick Williams, Penta, CM Punk and Kevin Owens, while the women’s field comprised Sol Ruca, Lola Vice, Jacy Jayne, Roxanne Perez, Lash Legend and Tiffany Stratton. The coverage suggested having the full roster of competitors together on one show could lead to confrontations ahead of the matches in New Orleans.
WWE also advertised a six-man dark match for the following week’s SmackDown: Seth Rollins, Solo Sikoa & LA Knight vs 946 (Royce Keys, Bronco Nima & Lucien Price). The Cajundome’s local advertising, however, listed 946 vs The Usos and Jacob Fatu on the bill.
SmackDown on October 9 functioned as the final televised stop before the Money in the Bank premium live event on October 10, with the announced title defense and the presence of all ladder-match competitors positioned as the show’s immediate lead-in to the PLE.
