SmackDown set to air SummerSlam fallout from Philadelphia on August 7 with Orton-Cody and Punk-Owens storylines
The August 7 edition of WWE SmackDown will emanate live from the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and serve as the SummerSlam fallout show following the two-night event. The programme will address high-profile SummerSlam developments — including Randy Orton’s attack on Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens becoming the number one contender for CM Punk’s Undisputed Championship — and lists Cody Rhodes, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, CM Punk, Gunther and Trick Williams among its featured superstars.
SummerSlam produced title changes and two major returns, and WWE has announced a grudge match between Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill for this Friday’s show. Baron Corbin defeated Trick Williams at SummerSlam to become the new United States Champion. Chelsea Green won the ladder match at SummerSlam to become the new Interim WWE Women’s Champion. WWE crowned an Interim Champion because the reigning Champion Rhea Ripley remains out of action due to a knee injury.
Chelsea Green’s ladder-match victory kickstarted her first World title reign as Interim WWE Women’s Champion. With a Champion crowned in Ripley’s absence, multiple stars are likely to stake claims to the interim title with Green at the centre of that picture. The show is expected to begin laying out potential challengers and new programs around the Interim Women’s Championship.
Randy Orton returned for the first time since WrestleMania to attack Cody Rhodes and cost him the Undisputed title match against CM Punk in the co-main event of Night 1 of SummerSlam. The attack has reignited the Orton–Rhodes feud and fans are now waiting to see how Cody responds. The attack will also help Rhodes, who, after a long time, will be in a feud where the World title is not at stake. This will help his persona that has become stale with similar feuds featuring the World title.
Kevin Owens won the fatal four-way match featuring Gunther, Finn Balor and Gunther to become the number one contender for the Undisputed title. That victory grants him a title shot against the reigning Champion CM Punk. The prospect of CM Punk vs Kevin Owens has excited fans who are now waiting to see a promo battle between the two, which might transpire on the fallout show this Friday. SmackDown is also likely to tease additional new feuds and returns, following the pattern of Raw’s fallout show.
