Sony provided an update on the development of PlayStation 6 during its Q2 2026 financial results presentation published on 2026-11-06, saying work on the next-generation console is moving forward as planned.

Chief Financial Officer Lin Tao told investors the PlayStation 6 programme is under way and that development is "progressing as scheduled." The Q2 2026 results presentation also highlighted strong PlayStation 5 sales and discussions about Sony's next-generation platform, and the company said it plans to increase investment in that platform to support future growth and the PlayStation ecosystem.

Sony said it has secured sufficient components to keep PlayStation 6 development on schedule despite industry challenges. Lin Tao said the company expects to make "solid progress" on the new-generation platform during this fiscal year and added that Sony will continue to offer support to the PS5 until its end of life.

The company reported that the PlayStation 5 has sold 97.9 million units worldwide, including 2.6 million consoles shipped in the July-September 2026 quarter. The update noted the arrival of GTA 6 this month and said many industry analysts and experts believe the PS5 will cross the 100 million mark in the future.

Sony has not provided an official release date for PlayStation 6 and said further information will be announced at an appropriate time. The company said it will begin significant investment in its next-generation gaming platform in the next fiscal year, which begins in April 2027.
