South Africa beat Australia by 32 runs to clinch ODI series

South Africa defeated Australia by 32 runs at the Wanderers in Johannesburg in the second one-day international on 27 September 2026 to secure the series with a game to spare. Temba Bavuma and David Miller both scored centuries in the victory.

The Proteas posted 365-9 in their 50 overs, Miller making 142 from 93 balls and captain Bavuma scoring 103 from 116. That pair put on 156 for the fourth wicket as South Africa recovered after Aiden Markram was dismissed first ball and Quinton de Kock fell cheaply for 15.

Miller reached his century in 73 balls and struck 12 fours and nine sixes as he continued to accelerate the innings. He combined with Marco and Duan Jansen late in the innings to take South Africa beyond 350, while Australia's attack was hampered after seamer Nathan Ellis' side strain meant he could only bowl four overs.

Australia began their chase with a 130-run opening stand between Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh but neither batsman could match the twin hundreds from the South African top order. Both openers were dismissed for 84.

Mitchell Marsh finished on 84 from 53 balls as Australia were ultimately bowled out for 333 in 49.5 overs, falling 32 runs short. All-rounder Xavier Bartlett hit a 26-ball fifty to keep Australia in contention before he was trapped lbw by a Lizaad Williams yorker, leaving 44 required off the last 14 balls; Edwards finished with 5-67 and Williams took 3-54.

The series concludes at Potchefstroom on Wednesday and will be followed by three Tests.
