Spain call up 26 players for September-October international window; Ferran Torres included

Spain named a 26-player squad on 18 September 2026 for the September-October international window, with Ferran Torres among those called up, after La Roja beat Argentina 1-0 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Spain will return to competitive action in the UEFA Nations League following their World Cup triumph, and head coach Luis de la Fuente set a clear tone ahead of the triptych of fixtures. Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente: “A player asked me two or three minutes after winning the World Cup what was left to win. I told him: ‘England in September’ “This team wants to keep improving and wants to keep winning competitions and titles.”

On goalkeeping, De la Fuente confirmed a late change owing to injury: “Joan (Garcia) is injured, so Josep (Martínez) comes in in his place. He’s already an international and a fantastic goalkeeper”. The three goalkeepers selected are David Raya, Josep Martínez and Unai Simón.

De la Fuente retained a familiar defensive group for the upcoming window, naming Vivian, Dean Huijsen, Cucurella, Grimaldo, Pedro Porro, Eric García, Pau Cubarsí and Laporte among his back-line options.

In midfield, the squad includes established World Cup contributors and other regulars, with Dani Olmo, Baena, Fermín López, Rodri, Zubimendi, Pedri, Fabián Ruiz and Mikel Merino all called up; the announcement described Rodri as another familiar name from the World Cup team.

The forward contingent features Roberto Fernández, Lamine Yamal, Víctor Muñoz, Nico Williams, Yeremy Pino, Oyarzabal and Ferran Torres, with De la Fuente singling out Roberto Fernández: “Roberto (Fernández) is a player we’ve been keeping a close eye on, and now is his moment. He has six goals,” said Luis de la Fuente. The coach also noted top attackers such as Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and Ferran Torres will be part of the frontline.

Spain open the Nations League portion of the international window against the Three Lions on 26 September, face Czechia on 3 October and conclude the break with a match against Croatia on 6 October.
